Celeb Styles: The Right And Really, Really Wrong

February 1, 2010

Hair mistakes are relatively easy to make. There are a lot of bad looks out there. We’ve put together our report on some emerging trends along with the good, the bad and the ugly of those celebrities that have chosen to sport some of these looks.

Hair Extensions: a lot of celebs use extensions to switch between their real short does and indulging in flowing locks for a little while. Hair extensions are easily done badly. In order for them to work and not look fake and cheap, there are a few things to consider: Do they blend with the natural hair? If texture and colour are wrong, they shouldn’t be worn. Our celebrity winner: Jessica Simpson. Celebrity loser: Kate Gosselin (seriously, that reported $7,000 she spent on them would have us screaming for a refund!).

Volume: another style that easily goes astray. While the return to big hair may be tempting for some, we ask that users keep a couple of things in mind: the hair should be full without treading into ridiculous territory. Movement is also good. Our celebrity winner: Carrie Underwood. Celeb loser: Snooki of Jersey Shore (her pompadour is as wide as her head! Where is the balance Snooki???).

Hair Colour that Matches Skin Tone: very little can do more to drag down your entire look then a badly selected colour. There should be some contrast between the colour of your hair and skin. We have a few losers in this category, and in all honesty, have no idea what these celebs and their stylists were thinking: Kate Hudson, Shakira, Beyonce, come on ladies, you’re killing us. Only winner comes to mind as this look is a tough one to pull off. Congrats to our winner, JLo.

Blonde Hair with Brunette Features: there are a few facial features out their that give away the fact that you are not a natural blonde. Not everyone was meant to be a blonde, and that’s okay! Some of the worst celeb offenders on this point are Katharine McPhee, Nicole Kidman, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian. A couple of natural brunettes that did it well: Megan Fox and Katy Perry.

Grown-Out Highlights: let us begin by saying this is a VERY difficult look to maintain. And, it in no way, shape or form works on women with small faces and fine hair. This look has a few winners and losers… Winners: Giselle Bundchen and Sarah Jessica Parker. Losers: Heidi Klum and Cameron Dias.

Do you have any celebrity hair trends that bother you? Any one we’ve missed? We’d love to hear your input!
